We need your love to remove landmines, gDevil's Weaponsh

@Peace Keeping
We Japanese feel it is natural for us to live in peaceful times, due to prosperous years after WW ‡U. But once we reflect upon global situations, people are suffering from wars, conflicts and hunger.
Some of them have been killed in more than half of the countries in this world. Some of our neighbors living in Asia are in danger of their lives.
@Cambodia
Kingdom of Cambodia , located in Southeast Asia, takes only 6 hours flying time from Japan to there. Many people in Cambodia are injured and killed by numerous landmines and UXO buried during the Vietnam War and lingering conflicts. Even now there are innumerable Cambodian landmine victims, suffering from their limbs blown away, loss of their both eyes and bereavement of a parent and children.
@Antipersonnel Landmines
There are estimated to be over 70 million landmines in the ground in many countries such as Cambodia . Landmines reportedly maim or kill around 70 people a day. Approximately 6 million antipersonnel landmines are buried in Cambodia . In addition, landmine fields expands 4500 k ‡u in three thousand areas there.
@ Devil's Weapon
Antipersonnel landmines have another name- hDevil's Weaponh for the following.
  • Atrocity : Not for killing people but for blowing off victims' limbs, landmines are designed to injure the victims.
  • Indiscrimination : Soldiers, civilians, men and women, children, and animals ? landmines attack all creatures that step on them.
  • Remain : Once buried, landmines maintain their power to injure or kill people and injure people even post conflicts.
Once you stepped on the landmine, it destroys your limbs, and crushes your bones. Stones, dirt, grass, piece of cloth and shoes crush into your body and eyes. Sometimes, the blast claims your sight.
Remaining landmines cause injury and inhibit post-conflict reconstruction. For example, after World War ‡U, 4000 people were killed by landmines; 9000 people were injured by them in Poland, even though 1.5 million landmines were removed by 1970s. In 1995 people finished removing landmines after 50 years in Germany.
It is very difficult to remove all of the landmines throughout the world. Presently ICBL estimates that there are 70 million landmines globally, 6 million landmines in Cambodia.
Moreover, the numbers of victims are increasing constantly. A Cambodian report in 2004 states that 95 percent of the victims are not soldiers but civilians. That is why landmines are called gDevil's Weaponh
@Mine Ban Treaty
On December 3 rd 1997 a total of 122 governments signed the Mine Ban Treaty in Ottawa , Canada . Japan signed the treaty on September 30 th , as the 45 th county to ratify. On March 1 st the treaty took effect and banned the guse, production, transfer, stockpiling, and fundingh of antipersonnel landmines. Japan used to possess around one million landmines, but started to destroy landmines yearly, after ratifying the treaty. On February 8 th Japan destroyed its last landmine.
As of October 2005 there are 153 member states of the treaty. Many countries, throughout the world, are cooperating with each other to abolish landmines. Despite the presence of international legislation to ban the landmines , however, more than 90 countries still possess 30 million landmines. Most of these landmines are stocked by Non-State Parties such as China , Russian Federation , United States , India , Pakistan and Burma . Russian Federation , Burma , India , Pakistan , Sri Lanka still use landmines and many people are injured or killed by landmines.
