「悪魔の兵器」地雷

The reasons of called “the Devil’s Weapon”

The landmine is different from other weapons because it is not designed to kill people. The purpose is to reduce the force of enemies since it is a much more effective way to damage the combat motivation of soldiers. It also damages the economic activity in the nation due to an increasing number of disabilities around the country. There are more than three hundred types of landmines recognised in the world, including both antipersonnel and the antitank ones. Landmines are basically designed to explode when triggered by pressure from the target stepping on it, though some are very complicated. For instance, the PFM-1 is frequently mistaken for a toy by children and handled, with the result that the victim’s hand is blown off. The TYPE72-A is a plastic bodied landmine which is very sensitive and cannot be located using metal detectors under most field conditions. Costing as little as $3 each, landmines are a cheap and cost-effective way for poorly financed armies and militaries to fight a war; albeit a brutal way.

1.Brutality

Anti-personnel mines are designed for use against humans, often designed to injure, not kill, victims in order to increase the medical support required by enemy forces that encounter them. This also has a demoralising psychological effect on enemies, for they would be forced to listen to their comrades screaming in pain and be in constant fear of becoming a landmine victim themselves.

2.Residual effects

Once a landmine is buried in the ground, it works almost permanently until someone stepping on it. The majority of landmines remain in fields, wells, and mountainous forests, all closely related to the daily lives of local people.

3.Indiscrimination

Soldiers, civilians, men and women, boys and girls, animals... Landmine attacks all creatures that may step on it.
